Passive House

Ath - Belgium - 2010

Houses which use very little energy, no energy at all, or less energy than they generate: There is a wide range of possibilities in terms of energy-efficiency. In the Belgian town of Ath, the Luxemburg architect Bruno Jourquin designed and built his own energetically passive villa, where sunlight, human beings, and household appliances serve as passive heat sources and thereby reduce energy use. An advantageous orientation and optimum insulation are essential to this, and that was one reason to utilize Reynaers’ high insulation window and door system CS 86-HI . The house’s contemporary architecture shows that it is possible these days to build ‘greenly’ without demonstrative expressions of sustainability.
